What Is An Australian Mountain Doodle (AMD)?

This unique mix is a fun and energetic pup. They’re adaptable, friendly dogs that share the best traits of both parents. Their coats require regular grooming to keep them soft, shiny, and healthy. These dogs have a happy-go-lucky attitude and love to please their owners.

They’re active and playful, making them suitable for many owners, from families to retirees, looking for a faithful friend. Typically, they have an aptitude for obedience training and enjoy being around kids and other pets.

How Big Does This Breed Grow?

Australian Mountain Doodle puppies grow into medium to large-sized pups. The average weight and height for a male range from 60 to 95 pounds and 21 to 28 inches. Females weigh between 40 to 80 pounds and are 14 to 17 inches tall. Check out our available puppies page to see our Australian Mountain Doodles for sale.

What’s the Life Expectancy Of This Breed?

These dogs have a life expectancy that is similar to other breeds of this size. They live on average 10 to 13 years, giving them a long life with you and your family. The purpose of the Australian Mountain Doodle was to create a lower energy Aussiedoodle with a longer lifespan than the Bernese Mountain Dog. However, many factors contribute to the overall life expectancy of dogs, so it’s vital to keep up with regular veterinary appointments and vaccinations.

What is Their Fur and Overall Appearance Life?

This gorgeous breed has either curly or wavy fur. It’s about 1 to 2 inches long and can be a variety of colors. Examples include chocolate and black tricolor and chocolate and Blue Merle tricolor. Another benefit of the breed is that they are hypoallergenic and perfect for families with allergies.

Grooming Your New Pup

You can brush them daily or every other day with a professional bristle brush. However, we suggest a professional groomer attends to their fur every six to eight weeks to prevent their fur from matting and tangling. Most of all, they shed little, if at all, which helps anyone with allergies that want a big, beautiful, loving pup. The fur around their face will grow faster than the rest of their body. So, you want to pay extra attention to this area. Keeping the fur out of their eyes helps them see better.

If your pup is not growing a thicker coat during the winter, you can give them a once-over with a lint roller or vacuum to pick up excess fur. Check for mats and snags every couple of weeks to keep their coats in top shape.

What’s Their Personality/Temperament Like?

These dogs are friendly, loving, and very loyal. They’re one of the easiest breeds to train because of their intelligence and playful nature. Their personalities vary depending on how much training they receive, environment, and parents’ temperament.  Australian Mountain Doodles are amiable dogs, so they do well with children, other dogs, and most pets and farm animals.

Training Your Dog

This puppy is easy to train. They are eager to please their owners and respond well to positive reinforcement training, so they will enjoy learning new tricks and playing all the time. These dogs have high intelligence and respond well to rewards, consistency, and, above all, patience.

What Are The Best Games For Them?

They love to play games that involve their owners. They are great at playing fetch or tug of war and enjoy playing with a ball. Their best type of toy is a durable rubber one that they can sink their teeth into without destroying it right away.

How Much Exercise Do They Need?

This breed requires a moderate amount of exercise every day. Around 30 minutes a day is enough for them to get their energy out, but you can adjust to each pup’s needs. For example, if they’ve been outside playing all morning, they won’t need as much exercise later in the afternoon or evening.

What’s Their Ideal Living Environment?

They can live in a wide variety of living environments as long as they have enough room to move around and play. They love spending time with their owners and don’t mind long walks or jogs. If you are planning to keep them in an apartment, bigger is not always better—they can be just as happy and healthy in a more compact living area.

What is This Breed’s Diet?

You can leave a bowl of age-appropriate dry food for them to eat when they’re hungry. Additionally, offer them treats as rewards for good behavior and during training to reinforce their learning.

Are Australian Mountain Doodle Puppies Good Family Dogs?

Australian Mountain Doodles are lovely family dogs, and they love spending time with their families, playing games and going on walks. This breed is brilliant. They’re easy to train and get along with other animals.
