Things That Prove Bernedoodles Are Perfect Pets

From having innocent eyes to being super loyal: This proves Bernedoodles are the perfect pets! Clever, charming, loyal, and affectionate, Bernedoodles are perfect companions and family dogs.

Only True Bernedoodle Lovers Know These Facts About The Breed

Originated in 2003 as a designer dog breed, Bernedoodles have become incredibly popular among dog lovers around the globe. These adorable fellows are a cross between the calm and giant Bernes Mountain Dog and the genius and playful Poodle.

Bernedoodle Sizes

Have you experienced the feeling that you badly need a dog with certain traits you adore, but you cannot bring one home because they do not match your size preferences? Well, Bernedoodles come in different sizes.

Bernedoodle sizes depend on the size of both parents. Bernese Mountain Dog and Standard Poodle crosses are called Standard Bernedoodles. Generally, their weight falls between 60 and 90 pounds. They can become 23 to 29 inches tall. Bernese Mountain Dog and Miniature Poodle crosses are called Miniature Bernedoodles. They are the perfect medium-sized Bernedoodles, weighing from 25 to 50 pounds. Miniature Bernedoodles are generally 18 to 22 inches tall.

Bernedoodle Appearance

Bernedoodles Amazing Facts

Wondering what your Bernedoodle puppy will look like when they are fully grown? The answer is, “It is a surprise!”

As we now know, Bernedoodles do not belong to a pedigree. They are mixed breed dogs. So, there is no such thing as Breed Standards for them, as it is impossible to predict their exact look. However, they will certainly look somewhat like a Bernese Mountain Dog and somewhat like a Poodle.

Both of the parent breeds of Bernedoodle are fluffy. Bernese Mountain Dog has a straight fur coat, and Poodles have a curly fur coat. So our fluffy Bernedoodle pooches can have three types of fur coats; straight, wavy, and curly. They also have tons of different coat color patterns. The most common colors are black, chocolate, sable, phantom, apricot, bi-color, tri-color, merle, and tri-merle.

Bernedoodles Shed Only Minimally

Though Bernedoodles are so much fluffy, they shed only minimally thanks to their Poodle side genetics. Bernedoodles with curly hair shed even less. When you have a nonshedding dog at home, it is crucial to groom them properly, or else they can get all matted readily.

Straight-haired Bernedoodles can shed to some extent and can be groomed less frequently. So, they are considered low-maintenance dogs compared to wavy or curly-haired ones.

Their thick hair coat allows them to tolerate cold weather quite well, and it shields them from heat when the weather is warm.

Bernedoodles Are A Safer Bet For Those With Pet-Allergies

Allergies from dogs occur through several different allergens carried through their dander, saliva, urine, fur, etc. Bernedoodles inherit their hypoallergenic and nonshedding nature from their Poodle parent. Just like Poodles, your Berendoodle pup is less likely to trigger allergies in pet allergy-prone people.

Bernadoodles’ Sweet And Loving Nature

Bernedoodles possess an incredible mixture of temperament traits inherited from the Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle. They get the gentle, charming, loyal, goofy, and affectionate nature from their Bernese Moutain Dog parent and the intelligent, fun-loving, friendly, and outgoing nature from their Poodle parent.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are one of the least aggressive dogs, as is their hybrid offspring  the Bernedoodle.

Having the best blend of Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle traits, Bernedoodles can be described as sweet-tempered clever dogs. They get along with kids well, accept the presence of strangers, and get friendly and playful with other pets as well. However, every pooch has individual variations when it comes to their personality. So, early socialization is crucial.

Bernadoodles Are Highly Intelligent

Thanks to the magnificent Poodle, Berenedoodles have become geniuses. So they are highly trainable. However, sometimes they can become a bit stubborn, especially when they are young. So training them should be started as early as possible.

Bernadoodle Care

Curious About How You Should Care For Your Bernedoodle?

Bernedoodles come in three different coat types; straight, wavy, and curly. The curly-haired Bernedoodles are considered nonshedding dogs. But they have a higher tendency of matting. So, you have to brush them at least every three days (everyday brushing is the best) and take them to a professional groomer at least every three months. Though curly-haired Bernedoodles sound high maintenance, straight-haired ones are considered fairly low maintenance dogs. They shed to some extent, so brushing them every 1- 2 weeks would be enough. Taking them for professional grooming can be done every 4-5 months. Wavy-haired pooch care falls between the above two.

How Much Exercise Do Bernedoodles Need?

Bernedoodles are moderately energetic. So, they should receive a moderate level of exercise daily. That depends on their age and size. An adult Bernedoodle should receive 30 – 60 min of exercise (such as a long walk) twice daily. Bernedoodle puppy needs 5 min of exercise, twice daily, per month of age. That means the extent of exercise should be gradually increased until they are fully grown. So if you are planning to become a Bernedoodle parent, finding time for their grooming and exercise routine is a must.

Bernadoodle Health And Lifespan

Here’s another good news! Your choice of dog can live a long and healthy life. Bernese Mountain Dogs are considered to live a much shorter life. That is generally 6-8 years. The lifespan of a Poodle is usually 12 – 15 years. Bernedoodles live longer than both of their parents. Their lifespan is 15-18 years.

Pure breed dogs always have closely related genes. Also, there can be intentional or unintentional inbreeding. So, they are more prone to inherited disorders. Crossbreeding mixes genes that are not closely related. So crossbred dogs, including our Bernedoodle, are much less prone to these genetic disorders. Likewise, Bernedoodles are healthier than their purebred parents.

Nature With Owners

They are very cute with their owners! You already have an idea about their sweet and lovely nature. Bernedoodles are incredibly loyal and faithful to their owners. Big or small, young or adult, they all love cuddles. These clever but bit goofy fluffy pooches will always be there for you.
